
INSTITUTE OF BIOLOGICAL SAFETY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY – AICT
History of Establishment
Initially, the Institute was established in 1971 as a branch of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Seed Production of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Since February 21, 1992, the institution has been part of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan and was renamed the Central Asian Institute of Seed Production.
The Institute was renamed according to the decrees of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan:
May 2, 2008, No. 215 – Scientific and Production Enterprise “Biological Material”;
January 7, 2014, No. 57 – Institute of Biological Safety;
August 31, 2020, No. 487 – Institute of Biological Safety and Biotechnology.
Structure of the Institute and Staff
The Institute comprises 5 laboratories:
Laboratory for Prevention of Anthrax and Leukosis in Cattle;
Laboratory for Diagnosis of Viral Diseases in Poultry;
Laboratory of Bacteriology;
Laboratory of Especially Dangerous Diseases of Cattle;
Laboratory for Monitoring Infectious Diseases of Small Ruminants.
Additionally:
National Center of Pathogenic Microorganisms;
Department of Microbiological Nutrition and Animal Facility;
Department of Biotechnology and Production of Veterinary Preparations, Department of Biological Safety and Hygiene;
Department of Information, Consultancy, and Implementation of Scientific Achievements;
Department of Science, Education, and Training of Scientific Personnel.
To carry out scientific research and production work, the Institute employs 72 staff members, including:
36 scientific researchers, among them:
5 Doctors of Veterinary and Biological Sciences (1 AICT Academician, 3 as collaborators);
12 Candidates of Veterinary and Biological Sciences (2 as collaborators).
