Dushanbe Hosts Regional AI Hackathon for Child Protection

On 15 October 2026, Dushanbe hosted a regional artificial intelligence hackathon focused on protecting children online. The event was initiated by the Agency of Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

The event brought together the Agency’s leadership, UNICEF representatives, digital technology experts, programmers, engineers, analysts, and members of the innovation community.

The hackathon aimed to develop technological solutions to prevent and reduce online risks to children, support innovative initiatives, and strengthen cooperation in creating a safe digital environment.

Speakers emphasized that artificial intelligence can play an important role in detecting harmful content, identifying signs of cyberbullying, and providing early warnings of risks. At the same time, these technologies must be used in ways that respect children’s rights, protect personal data, and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability.

During the event, the Agency and UNICEF signed the terms of use for the CPIMS+ / PRIMERO system, and the official launch of PRIMERO was announced. The system is designed to support child protection case management and improve processes for handling related data.

During the experience-sharing session, experts discussed initiatives related to artificial intelligence and information security, the role of technology entrepreneurship in child protection, and international and regional experience in this field.

Finalist teams presented prototypes of their solutions, outlining opportunities for practical application, child protection measures, and prospects for further development of the proposed products. Following the jury’s evaluation, the teams taking first, second, and third place were selected.

The hackathon contributed to stronger regional cooperation and support for innovative solutions to protect children in the digital environment. The Agency will continue to support responsible technology development and the use of artificial intelligence for the benefit of society.
