Due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, the newly formed countries, especially the independent states of Central Asia, built their Armed Forces in peaceful political conditions and on the basis of important military buildings and facilities, inherited various military equipment and various combat arms. and ammunition of the powerful Soviet Army. Unfortunately, the difficult military and political situation of those years did not allow Tajikistan to benefit from the legacy of the Soviet Union Army. Because our country was surrounded by complicated military-political situation or internal conflicts. Our national army was created from scratch in a very difficult situation of internal conflict

Thus, on December 18, 1992, Emomali Rahmon, Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Tajikistan, signed the Decree “On the Establishment of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan”, and they were created on the basis of the “ Popular Front”.

Despite the very difficult conditions, in 1993 for the first time on the square “Dusti” of the capital a military parade of the newly formed units of the National Army was held, and since that day February 23 was officially declared as the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Every year, the main factor in celebrating February 23 as the Day of the Establishment of the Armed Forces of the country is the organization and holding of the first military parade in independent Tajikistan.
