About the Pamir Scientific Center for Agriculture

The Center was established based on decisions of the Academy and the Government of Tajikistan to strengthen agricultural research and productivity in the GBAO region.

It evolved from earlier agricultural research institutions and was officially reorganized into its current form in 2020.

The Center operates under its charter and is directly subordinated to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Structure

The Center includes 5 departments:

• crop breeding and seed production
• fruit trees, potato and vegetable breeding
• livestock and pasture management
• animal disease diagnostics and prevention
• administrative department

It employs:

• 15 researchers (including doctors and candidates of sciences)
• 8 technical staff

Additionally, postgraduate and doctoral students conduct research.

Activities

The Center conducts research in:

• crop breeding and seed production
• potato, vegetable and fruit production
• cereals and legumes
• fodder crops
• agricultural technologies
• plant protection
• livestock breeding (including yak breeding)
• animal health

Role

The Center operates within national policies and programs and serves as the main agricultural research institution in the GBAO region.

Key tasks

• improving research efficiency
• introducing new crop varieties
• adapting foreign varieties
• improving livestock breeds
• developing genetic resources
• supporting farms with scientific expertise

Achievements

Scientists of the Center have achieved significant results in studying agriculture in mountainous regions and continue to develop innovative solutions.
