Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Vegetable Growing
In 1932, by the decision of the People's Commissariat of the USSR, and within the structure of the All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences named after V.I. Lenin (VASKhNIL), the Scientific Research Institute of Fruit Growing, Viticulture, and Vegetable Growing of Central Asia was established in the city of Khujand.
In October 1956, by a special resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Council of Ministers of the USSR, two institutions — the Scientific Research Institute of Fruit and Viticulture and Vegetable Farming, and the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Arid Subtropics — were merged. As a result, the Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture, and Subtropical Crops named after I.V. Michurin was established under the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan.
In 1978, on the basis of the departments of horticulture, vegetable growing, and breeding of subtropical crops of the Tajik Research Institute of Agriculture, the Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture, and Vegetable Growing was established.
In 1987, the Scientific Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture, and Vegetable Growing of Tajikistan was merged with a network of nursery farms to form the Scientific-Production Association (SPA) "Bogparvar".
In May 2008, SPA "Bogparvar" was renamed the Institute of Horticulture and Vegetable Growing of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Tajikistan.
According to the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated August 31, 2020, No. 487 "On Amendments to the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated May 2, 2008, No. 215", the name of the institute was officially confirmed as:
Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Vegetable Growing.
The scientists of the institute have made a significant contribution to the development of agriculture and to ensuring the food security of the country. Within the framework of implementing government programs, the institute carries out scientific research in the following areas: the development of new high-yielding and disease- and pest-resistant varieties, the creation and improvement of advanced technologies, and the implementation of national agricultural programs.
To implement scientific achievements in practice, the institute includes:

Key tasks of the institute include:

Development of new plant varieties;

Selection and submission of new varieties to the State Commission for Variety Testing of Agricultural Crops and Variety Protection under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan;

Introduction of new varieties into production;

Expansion of the list of regionally adapted varieties;

Breeding of disease-resistant varieties;
-
Improvement of grape cultivation technologies based on regional conditions;

Enhancement of methods and technologies for growing fruit tree seedlings;

Development of high-yielding and disease- and pest-resistant vegetable crop varieties;

Potato seed production and development of a set of protection measures against diseases and pests.
The main focus of the institute’s activity is the development of new varieties of fruit trees, grapes, and vegetable crops that are resistant to diseases and climate change; their introduction into production; improvement of regionally adapted varieties; refinement of technologies for growing seedlings of fruit trees, vegetable crops, and potatoes; as well as the development of integrated plant protection measures.
