GEOGRAPHICAL DESCRIPTION OF TURSUNZADE
Historical background
Tursunzade city has a history of more than 2,500 years. Over 160 archaeological and historical sites have been studied in the Hissar Valley, most of them located within the modern city area.
The name “Regar” is associated with several historical interpretations, including ancient settlements and crafts.
Administrative development:
1927 — formation of Shahrituz district
1935 — division into Shahrihan and Regar districts
1940 — administrative center moved to Regar railway station
1952 — Regar granted city status
1979 — renamed Tursunzade after poet Mirzo Tursunzade
GEOGRAPHY
Located in southwestern Tajikistan, between 38–39°N and 68–69°E.
Area — about 1,200 km².
Population density — 233.1 people per km².
Situated in the Hissar Valley, surrounded by mountains. Rivers Karatag and Shirkent flow through the territory.
